Quick Release-Mode Unrecognized

We tested as good as we can. But there will always be things we didn't find. If you found things that apparently don't work as they should, you can report them here so we can take care of them as soon as possible.

The Unleashed Drive Mode does not seem to recognize Quick Release-Mode on the Nikon D5. When the release mode dial is set to Quick Release-Mode the app does not show the actual release mode or allow it to be set. The Drive Mode icon is simply a rectangle with a “C” inside and.there is a message that it is read-only and restricted.

Hi slp,

Thanks for the report, it's already on our list. That is a feature present only in the Nikon D5, it has an extra position in the dial that Nikon calls a "custom position". The "C" in the rectangle stands for Custom.

You are not able to change the Drive Mode in the D5 because the setting is only "physically" changeable. That means that you have to move the dial yourself in order to change the mode. It can't be changed via software. The Unleashed can't change it, but it can read it.

We looked at this a while ago - as Andy mentions, this comes from a D5 only Feature:
on most Nikon cameras - certainly all higher-end models, Drive Mode is only changeable using a hardware dial.
On that hardware dial, the D5 has a special position, called "custom position", for which we made an icon of a rectangle (just like all the single shot modes) with a "C" for "Custom Position" inside.
The cool thing is that when this is set, you can actually change the drive mode via software (or button-press + generic dial) - ie we could also change it via the app. However, the unfortunate thing is that it's an entirely new setting - basically "Drive Mode 2". We can access that via the USB cable, but we haven't implemented it yet. I suppose we will try to merge this setting with the normal drive mode setting, and make the change-over seamless for the user.

Could you let us know what happens (in the app) if you unplug USB, leave the dial on "Custom Position", and then soft-change the drive-mode? Does it ever from single to continuous and back? Without USB, we only get these two values from the camera: Single or Continuous. Does the value become settable by any chance? We don't have a D5 here for testing, so thanks already for any info!

Without the USB cable on the D5, it remains read-only and the drive mode icon acts the same either using the hard release mode switch or in "custom" mode setting it with the dial. That is, in CL and CH modes it shows multiple rectangles (which unfortunately looks just like the "custom" mode icon) for continuous shooting and in all other modes (S, Q, self timer, and MUP) shows a single rectangle for single shot mode.

Thanks for that info.
OK, that's what I expected, but good to know for sure.

Like I said, In a future update, the "custom position" icon will be removed, and instead we will add the "Drive Mode 2" setting and show that instead, so don't worry too much about the custom position icon
