Nikon Zf

We tested as good as we can. But there will always be things we didn't find. If you found things that apparently don't work as they should, you can report them here so we can take care of them as soon as possible.

Hi Oliver, the problem with the endless loop at the Nikon Zf, if you turn off the camera, is not really solved. If you take off the objective or the SD-Card the camera wakes up (the switch is still on OFF) and the loop begins again ... You have a solution about that? Thanks and greetings,

Stefan

We're actually working on exactly this this week!
We found a few cases in addition to the ones you mention:
- if the battery is dead
- if you turn the camera on and off again very quickly

It's really not a simple problem: In these cases the Unleashed won't get any info from the camera to tell it it's a Nikon, and there's nothing that we can use to differentiate this from normal usage on other cameras. The only way to get around this loop is to not try to turn on USB for about 5 seconds. If we added such a delay every time the Unleashed powers on, it would really hurt the snappy behaviour that makes regular usage of the Unleashed so great.
We have an idea that we're currently implementing.

In the meantime: you can shortly disconnect the magnetic usb connector, wait 10 seconds and reconnect it to stop the loop.

There are also a few other oddities we found with the Zf. We've already managed to solve a few, and are trying to find workarounds for others.

Hopefully we'll have an update for you next week.

Hi Oliver,

unfortunately, the update was unsuccessful with regard to the unwanted loop. When the camera is switched off, it starts up again when you change the memory card or a lens. Will there be a solution soon?

Thank you and best regards

Hi Stefan,
are you really up to date? the current version is A & B 3.2.1
We made a significant change that really should have been a solution for this! We now persist the Make and model of the last connected Camera, so that we can explicitly check whether it was a Nikon Zf or Zfc in order to add an additional delay of 5s before we try to enable USB on power on. Normally we'd only get this info after successfully connecting via USB, which only solved the issue when turning off the camera, but not when 'half awakening' the camera while it's actually turned off.

We'll certainly have another look if we missed anything after your report, but until we have implemented a permanent fix, what you can always do when you change lens/memory card while the camera is off, is to simply pull the Unleashed off of the magnetic connector, then let it snap back on. Or of course just turn on the camera for 10 seconds, then turn it off.

Could you send us a video of the issue? or try to measure the time between the Unleashed's LED turning on and the camera's LED then turning on again starting the loop? That would help us check if our timeout is actually kept, and it's still too short, or if we got something wrong with the condition of activating that extra timeout.

Thanks!
