N1 & D700: iso limits unavailable in ramping

Hi all,

just received brand new N1, no issues pairing with my phone once installed on my Nikon D700. I'm able to manage all camera settings, take pictures and review them. When using ramping mode, when I click on "DAy" and "Night" settings, the ISO settings is marked as "unavailable" and I'm not able to set min and max ISO for my holy-grail TL. Is this an issue with my device or camera?

Thanks.

Paolo

Hi Paolo,

The only thing I can think of: can you check if your camera is in Auto ISO?
can you send me a screenshot of both the normal ISO setting (tap on ISO in the Photo screen) and of the day limits on the Autoramp screen?

Thanks.

Hi Oliver,

thanks a lot for your quick reply.

Auto ISO setting was my first concern, I double checked it and can confirm that it's disabled. During timelapses I work in full manual settings (M mode, no AF, daylight WB, fixed ISO).

Please find attached the requested screenshots.

Some further info:
- tested with different Android 9 and 10 devices, same behavior
- during first holy-grail TL test, only ISO settings was changed, no changes in shutter speed or aperture (I will retry, might be I made a mistake in setting up ramp direction, I will retry asap)
- after first binding, I performed a firmware update as suggested, now in device's settings I find a warning that suggest to downgrade firmware to avoid compatibility issues, when I start it, downgrade completes successfully but fw version doesn't change. See attached screenshot

Bye
Paolo

Hi Paolo, I don't see the screenshots, can you try to re-upload them?

I can confirm that ramping during sunset only acts on ISO settings.

Hi Paolo, this could have to do with the ISO limits being N/A.

We'll have a look what happened there.

On a sunset, we first decrease shutterspeed down to the night limit then open aperture then increase ISO.
On a sunrise, we decrease ISO down to the day limit, then close the aperture, then increase shutterspeed.
If you set one or more of the limits to the current value, we won't ramp that setting.

We'll also have a look at the firmware version mismatch and the downgrade message, It looks like we just forgot to update the version number saved in the app, as we released A1.4.5 and A1.4.6 very shortly one after the other.

One more thing: could you go to the Menu, tap the (i) at the bottom, then tap on App settings. There you have the option to turn on debug logging, and sending us that log. Could you turn it on, go back to the autoramping limits (where the ISO is N/A), then go back to send us the log file? This will help us find the issue if we cant immediately reproduce it.

Thanks already

Yes, that's the expected behavior, I found it well described in this FAQ. I've tried both EV meter Smoothing 24 and LRT modified but the result is the same.

The debug logging was already enabled... (I work in the field of mobile development too, with an embedded hw dev background, so I'm logs "addicted" ;) ). Here you can download the log file

Hope this help digging in.

Thanks
Paolo
