Update of GPS and firmware does not work

We tested as good as we can. But there will always be things we didn't find. If you found things that apparently don't work as they should, you can report them here so we can take care of them as soon as possible.

I use the N2 for D780 (currently without cables) with Adroid 10.
Unfortunately, it doesn't do what I'd expect and I'm used to from previous Unleashed.

So geotagging works when the app is switched on, but then the position is no longer updated.
All other photos get the GPS from the starting point.
It's a shame, because I managed to do that with Snapbridge, which is why I bought the Unleashed in the first place.

I saw and understood the tutorial (On / 1 / GPS). However, it looks different in my app on the smartphone!?! For me there is no 's' behind the numbers.

In addition, I see a red 1 at the bottom left, which indicates a new firmware.
When trying to update the progress bar remains constant at 0%. Nothing just happens.

What am I doing wrong?
Where can I find help?

Hi,

That's certainly not how it should work - the Unleashed requests GPS data from the App, which in turn requests it from the Android system, even when the App is in the background. You do need make sure you don't have something like a "Cleaner app" running, which closes our app in the background.
Then you can also try to make sure your phone is set to use GPS+Wifi+Celltower positioning, and not just Wifi+Celltower - the latter will have a much worse precision, potentially getting even worse with the phone screen being off.

can you send me your serial number and current Firmware versions, to see about the Firmware update issue (either here or to support@foolography.com)? Thanks!

I got the permanent update of GPS under control. Yeah!

Nothing has changed with regard to firmware updates. "Starting update ..." remains at 0%. My serial number is 003849, firmware version
A 1.4.5
B 1.4.9
C 0.0.0

When updating with the 0% below
A 1.4.5
B 1.4.9
C 1.4.0

About is app version 1.3.10.

Could this be due to the missing cable that has not yet been delivered to me?

Thanks for your help in advance.

Hi,

what did you have to do to fix the GPS issue? It would be good to know for future reference, if other customers have the same issue.

Do you have the possibility to try running the firmware update with an iOS device? You have to either disconnect the Unleashed in your app, or kill the app, so that another device can connect and rund the update, but after that you can continue using your regular phone if the update was successful.
There are a few issues with the Bluetooth Stack on Android, which causes unexpected behaviour, so it would be good to eliminate that possibility by trying on an iOS device.

Regarding Firmware: I've tried that on iOS as well after the app was downloaded today.
There the N2 names a D6 (with Android D780 is correctly recognized) and reports an update available:

A 1.4.4 (A 1.4.5 appeared to be available with Adroid)
B 1.4.9
C 1.4.0
The 'Install Update' button is inactive on iOS, a finger pressure only reacts with '-more ...', '<' and 'X'.

Regarding GPS, it was helpful to change the app rights from 'Only allow access while using the app' to 'Always allow'.

Hi BeST,

I can see what your problem is but I don't understand how is it that you have an Unleashed like that. Hopefully it's just a bug. Were you ever able to perform a firmware update? Or have you never tried before?

There's something you can do to check if your Unleashed is faulty or not. Please follow the instructions below:

- Download a Bluetooth scanner app, such as LightBlue (icon looks like a fist, white/blue).
- Open it and look for a device called Unleashed (make sure that your Unleashed is plugged in the camera and the camera is on)
- Check if you see the following text at the top of the list (0x8EC90003-... as shown in the screenshot below)

If you see that text, we should be able to update your Unleashed, if you don't see it, we will have to replace it for you, unfortunately.

Hello Andy,

I did as recommended on Android with Bluetooth additionally enabled and disabled on the D780 (= same results) and this is how it looks with LightBlue.

I look forward to feedback from the specialist. I am not one.
I have the Unleashed for a few days now (new, cable not yet available) and thus never updated it before.

I'm afraid it doesn't look good, I would advise you to contact support@foolography.com and follow up there to see what can be done to get you a fully functioning Unleashed. Sorry that I don't have better news.

Are there more things below what you showed in those screenshots? As far as I understand your Unleashed does "work" right? But you're unable to perform a firmware update?

I already contacted support@ about this two weeks ago after receiving the product, but I haven't received an answer till now. That's why I registered for the forum at all.
Of course I can do that again, although it is not clear to me why I have to turn from support@ to the forum and be sent back to support@.

Yes there are many more entries below.

I can at least trigger it via the app. Due to the missing cable, I can't test it any further. Because of the impossibility to update the firmware I turned to this forum.
