Methods
There are several ways of how to go about geotagging:
- Manual: using special software and selecting the location on a map for each photo
- Indirect: Logging a track with a GPS logger and then using special software to synchronize the photos with points on the recorded track, with the same timestamps.
- Direct: connecting a GPS receiver directly to a camera which automatically writes the current position into the photos’ EXIF metadata when it is taken.
If your camera supports it, you should go with the superior method of direct geotagging. If it doesn’t, either upgrade your camera
or go with indirect geotagging. For older photos, taken before you got a GPS, you have no choice but to use the manual method of geotagging.
